A sheet of 66 various flags of different nations and companies, as they were towards the end of the eighteenth century, published in Hall's Encyclopaedia. Many individual flags shown would now come under national flags; for instance the flags of Tuscany, Venice, Naples, and Genoa would now fly under one unifying Italian flag; similarly, the flags of Hamburg, Prussia, and Lubeck would now be covered by the national flag of Germany. There are flags for the Dutch East Indies (VOC), the Dutch West Indies, West Friesland, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and the Republic of Holland.
The flag for the Isle of Man has its usual 'three legs', but is also has in a corner the Cross of St. George; The Irish flag has the Irish Harp and the Cross of St. George; The Scottish flag has the Saltaire in one corner only, not covering the entire flag as it does today. The Chinese flag is unrecognizable for its modern counterpart, as are the flags of Russia, France, Algeria, Iran and Tunisia.
There are a number of flags representing the East India Company and the British Admiralty.
