Antique lunar map, "Die Sichtbare Seite der Mondoberfläche Bei Voller Beleuchtung", or "The visible side of the moon's surface in full illumination" by Joh Carl Ausfeld, 1869. Originally appearing in Stieler's Hand Atlas.
The map includes a wealth of detail, indicating the various craters and mare (the lunar seas), meticulous labelling of details observed by astronomers in the 19th Century. The late 19th Century was a period of heightened interest in lunar observation, partly fuelled by the burgeoning field of astrophotography and advances in telescope technology.
